Are Grout and Caulk the Same Thing?

Many people don’t know that grout and caulk are different things. Many people think you can use grout or caulk for projects, but they are not the same thing and they are not used for the same process. Caulk is not another word for grout and vice versa.

Grout is made up of cement, sand, and sometimes tint. Grout is used to fill in spaces and lines in between tiles. Grout helps keeps tiles from moving, cracking or chipping. Grout is porous and should be sealed after it is applied to keep it protected from spills, dirt, liquids, mold, etc.

Grout can be sanded (cement-based grout but sand is added), non-sanded, and epoxy grout, which is the most durable grout.

To keep your grout clean and protected throughout the year, you need to use a grout cleaner and sealer, not just any cleaner.

Grout Shield’s Grout & Tile Deep Cleaner help lifts deep stains your grout. This product is great if you haven’t cleaned your grout in a long time. Grout Shield’s Maintenance Cleaner will help you clean the grout on a regular basis throughout the year. Grout Shield’s cleaners are pH balanced and do not harm the grout. After cleaning the grout and letting it dry, you can apply Grout Shield Color Sealer or Clear Sealer, which will protect the grout from absorbing things it comes in contact with.

Unlike grout, caulk is soft, rubbery, and flexible. It is applied along seams and edges where two different surfaces meet. The purpose of caulk is to act as a sealant and to keep water leakage from occurring. Caulk can be used to fill in gaps, cracks, and breaks in tiles, windows, baseboards, doors, and more. Caulk can dry out or shrink so it cannot be used in place of grout. Caulk can be latex, silicone, specialty, and siliconized acrylic latex.

Before you caulk something in the bathroom, make sure you should be using caulk and not fixing or restoring your grout instead.

If you’re looking to restore your dirty and/or dull grout lines, consider Grout Shield. Our products will “wow” you!

Grout Shield’s grout products can clean and restore your floors and other tile and grout services and have them shining again. Our color sealer can even change the color of your grout to give your room and home a whole different look.

Cleaning Your Grout is Good for Your Health

Cleaning your grout can keep you healthier – really? How so? Well, most grout is porous, which means it absorbs everything it encounters if not protected by a grout sealer. Grout can hold onto germs, bacteria, viruses, chemicals, mold, mildew, fungus, and more – all of these things can make you sick.

You’re exposed to these bad germs/bacteria every time you walk on grout, take a shower near grout, or eat near grout. Your young children, who often play on the floor, are exposed to the nasty germs. You don’t want to become sick from these hidden bad things in your home.

Mold and bacteria can lead to a lot of health problems for you and your family. With mold and mildew, you could get itchy skin, irritated eyes, and respiratory problems.

If the tile in your bathroom or kitchen is dirty looking or smells, there’s a good chance you have dirt, mold, or mildew build-up. Because of this, you’re exposing yourself to a toxic environment. With the right grout cleaner, you can clean up, kill, and wipe away all the germs, dirt, and mold for good – you’ll get your grout clean looking and free of filth!

For a deep clean, especially if there is dirt/mold build-up, you’ll need something heavy duty to clean your grout.  Grout Shield Grout & Tile Deep Cleaner lifts dirt out from the pores of the grout. To use: Step 1. Mix 1 oz of the deep cleaner with 8 oz of warm water. Step 2. Brush into the grout. Step 3. Let the mixture sit on your grout for a few minutes. Step 4. Wipe clean with a sponge.

Once your grout is clean, you can maintain it easier throughout the year with a maintenance grout cleaner. Grout Shield Maintenance Cleaner is a neutral pH-cleaner that helps the grout lines become renewed and clean. It is a non-combustible, fast-acting concentrate. To use: Step 1. Dilute in water. Dilution rate is 2 oz. to 1 gallon of water. Step 2. Apply to the surface with a damp mop or sponge. After application, the cleaner will start to dissolve grease, dirt, and oil. Step 3. Towel dry the area.

Both cleaners come in different sizes (depending on the size of your room). Both cleaners are ph-balanced and do not harm the grout.

Once you clean the grout, you’ll need a sealer to protect it from absorbing all that dirt and mold again. Pick up a bottle of Grout Shield’s clear grout sealer to protect your grout and tile.

By cleaning and sealing your grout, you’ll be keeping you and your family healthy.

Never Get Stains with Grout Shield’s Grout Products

Grout is porous. If it isn’t sealed, it will absorb everything it touches. Water, soy sauce, spaghetti sauce, red wine, juice, mud, urine, mold, and more. If you’ve tried to clean your grout before, you probably spent hours scrubbing with no progress. Most cleaners out there cannot lift stains from grout, or they are too harsh and will destroy the grout.

You need quality grout cleaners and sealers to never get stains on your grout lines again.

Grout Shield sells a grout Maintenance Cleaner and a Grout & Tile Deep Cleaner – both products are great at lifting stains and dirt from the pores in the grout. The grout & tile deep cleaner is great if you have really tough or old stains or haven’t cleaned your grout in a while. The maintenance cleaner is good for throughout the year and for touch ups. The grout and tile cleaner when applied to tile and grout will remove any excess dirt or grease from grout surface as well as any previous applied grout sealers allowing our product to bond to the grout. The maintenance cleaner cleans the tile and grout to help keep your grout lines looking renewed and clean. To use, you just damp a mop and towel dry to always keep your floor looking brand new.

Now once you get the stains off, you need to protect your Grout with a seal. Grout Shield offers color grout sealer and clear grout sealer. The color sealer should be used if want to change the color of your grout lines, or if you need to fix a discoloration. The clear seal is a great choice if your grout is clean and you don’t want to change the color of your grout, only protect it. The sealer creates a barrier and liquids and dirt won’t penetrate the grout.

Check out the video below to see how the clean tile and grout stays clean after getting a dark cause rubbed all over it. This tile is protected with Grout Shield grout sealers.

The grout clear and color sealers come in 8 ounces (covers 250 square feet), 16 ounces (covers 500 square feet),  one gallon (covers 4,000 to 6,000 square feet), and a 2-ounce sample size that covers up to 10 square feet.
