How to Clean Hair Dye from Grout

To save money, many of us dye our hair at home. Whether it’s blonde, brown, red, black, or even purple, the colors we choose are dark and bright, which means they can easily show up on tile and grout. Accidents happen and we can easily spill or splatter hair dye while dying our hair in the bathroom or kitchen. Hair dye can be hard to clean off grout because the liquid quickly absorbs into the grout lines. It actually can be hard to get off tiles, as well.

Since grout is porous and usually light-colored, it will easily absorb the bright hair dye and become discolored. With the right grout cleaning and sealing products, you can clean up the hair dye and it will look like the spill never happened. Remember, you want to clean up hair dye immediately, so the stain is easier to clean up.

Our team at Grout Shield can help you get rid of hair dye stains for good. You’ll never know it was there! Hair dye stains on your counter, backsplash, or floor can make your kitchen or bathroom look really old and dirty, even if you clean it regularly.

Besides getting rid of the discoloration, Grout Shield products also rid the grout of bacteria and other harmful germs that get absorbed into the grout lines over time.

Many home-cleaning articles may tell you to clean up the hair dye with bleach, ammonia or white vinegar. Sure, these chemicals and products may work, but they also aren’t really cleaning the grout, and many of these chemicals can actually cause the grout to crack or break.

To remove the hair dye stains, you want to first blot the area dry with a clean cloth. Wipe the area clean of the dye. You may notice your grout is stained with a color now. To remove the dye, you will want to use Grout Shield’s Grout & Tile Deep Cleaner, which cleans and lifts deep and hard-to-clean stains out of the grout’s pores.

To use this cleaner, mix 1 ounce of the cleaner with 8 ounces of warm water. Then, brush the cleaner into the grout with a brush applicator. Let the mixture sit into the grout lines for a few minutes. Then, wipe away the cleaner with a sponge and towel dry the floor. The hair dye will be gone.

Now, if the dye still won’t fully disappear, you can make the grout color look like new again with Grout Shield’s color sealer. You just squeeze the sealer into the grout lines. Then, spread it into the grout lines with a brush applicator or your finger and wipe away the excess with a towel or chamois. You can choose any color in the world to recolor your grout. Check out our grout colors.

If you don’t need to recolor your grout, you should seal it with a clear grout sealer after cleaning it, to protect it from future spills and accidents. Since you likely dye your hair regularly, the sealer will prevent future hair dye from seeping into the grout lines, and you can wipe the dye right up with no stains left behind.

How to Renovate Your Pool Area with Grout Shield

Does your outdoor pool look drab? Does it look too dirty to swim in even if the water is clean? Likely, the tile and grout in your pool are dirty from years of dirt and other elements. Outdoor pools are exposed to the elements from sun and sunscreen to dirt, leaves, bugs, skin and food. Pools get dirty fast, especially their grout lines if not sealed.

The grout lines in pool get dirty as the grout you find in a bathroom or kitchen inside a home or business. On pool grout, algae, mold, dirt, and stains can form from moisture and liquids that have collected from rainwater, pool water, and other outdoor elements.

When not properly cared for, a pool’s grout lines can go from bright beautiful colors to dingy, dull lines. Even if you “clean” the area, it can look like you’ve never cleaned if you aren’t using the proper grout cleaner and grout sealer.

You want to invest in quality grout cleaning products that can clean and seal your grout, so you can keep the hotel pool looking clean and new all year round.

Here are some Grout Shield products that can help you renovate your pool and pool area:

The Grout Shield Grout & Tile Deep Cleaner cleans and lifts deep stains out of the grout’s pores. If your grout hasn’t been properly cleaned in a while, use this product!  To use this product, mix 1 ounce of the cleaner with 8 ounces of warm water. Then, brush the cleaner into the grout. Leave the mixture to sit into the grout lines for a few minutes. Lastly, wipe away the cleaner with a sponge.

Grout Shield Color Sealer – This product isn’t just a grout sealer, it allows you to match or change the color of the existing kitchen grout without having to remove any of the grout. You can also mix it in with grout to re-grout your tile if needed. This will change the color of the grout, seal, and protect it. With this product, we can match any color possible.

Grout Shield’s Clear Seal – This sealer works just like the color sealer, except it is clear and doesn’t change the color of your grout. This is good to use if you like the color of your grout and it’s bright and new-looking.

Grout Shield Restoration Kit and Packages – A kit or package is the best way to fully restore a kitchen floor or backsplash. Grout Shield offers seven different package kits to help restore the look of grout. Each kit’s contents vary depending of the size of the job that needs to be done. The kits offer everything you need for a full restoration: cleaner, sealant, colors, chamois, brushes, and instructions.

To clean the pool’s grout lines, you need to drain your pool if any grout goes beneath the water. If you only have tile surrounding the pool, you do not need to drain the pool.

Make sure all your grout is dry. Next, sweep away any access debris or dirt that is on the surface of the tiles and grout. Use Grout Shield’s Grout and Tile Cleaner to clean the area. Apply the cleaner to the grout and tile with a mop and let it saturate into the grout lines for 10 to 15 minutes. Then, towel dry the area. After the grout is dry, apply Grout Shield’s clear sealer or color sealer onto the area. A grout sealer will protect your grout for longer, making it harder to get dirty. If you want to change the color of your pool, opt for the color sealer – you can choose any color you want!

Clean and bright tiles and grout can make all the difference in a pool. You don’t have to retile or re-grout your pool to do a renovation. A new grout color might even be enough to make your pool appear brand new! Don’t tear up the grout and tile. A restoration is possible with Grout Shield products.

Not sure what to buy? Our team at Grout Shield can help you determine what products are best for your needs, preferences, and the current condition of your pool grout.
